As an historian, investigative
journalist, biographer and speaker, for many years I've tried to
bring to life the rich story of America, past and present, its
leaders and its ordinary people--as newspaper feature writer, investigative
reporter, magazine writer and editor, college history professor,
author of a dozen books, including prize winning biographies and
easy-to-read college history textbooks. My research often helps
the media on deadline. I speak frequently to the public. I have
taught thousands of students. This web site makes it easier for
you to get in touch with me if I can help you or if you want me
to speak. It directs you to the work I've already done. I invite
you to join me in coming adventures into our past.

Review from New York Review of Books
'The Vigilantes of Vermont'
- T.H. Breen
"This is the first biography of Ethan Allen in half a century, and the only one to render him a psychologically complicated, fully flawed hero of the American Revolution."
--- Joseph J. Ellis, Author of Founding Brothers
“This is a powerful story about an essential and little-understood figure in American history. Willard Randall writes with grace and insight, and ‘Ethan Allen’ is engaging biography.”
--- Jon Meacham
