Thomas Chittenden's Town

Thomas Chittenden's Town traces the history of a small town in Vermont from its founding in the 1770's on the eve of the American Revolution to its controversial struggle over construction of "box malls" in the 1990's. The book includes a fifty-page biography of the town's--and Vermont's--founding father, Thomas Chittenden. There are topical chapters on tne history of the town's growth, its schools, churches, commerce, celebrations, disproportionate participation in the Civil War, its leading--and not so famous--families, all illustrated by some 150 photographs and maps from personal and public collections.
